Outer Journey

The Hurricane Katrina exhibit in the Presbytere was by far
my favorite exhibit today. It was filled with historic testimonies and artifacts
of this awful disaster. There were videos of people who actually survived and
lived through the hurricane, you got to hear what it was like for them to get
ready for the storm and endure the storm. I was able to see the conditions of
the super dome where people were trapped for nearly 6 days and hear about how
awful and terrifying it was. You could tell from the people’s voices when
talking about it, it was a horrible experience that they had to go through. I
got to see writings from an individual who stayed in the city during this time,
you got to learn about his struggles and what went through his mind during this
time which I though helped me understand the situation better. Throughout the
museum there were tons of exhibits and structures to try and help you
understand what was happening during this time and what effect it had on the
city which I thought helped me understand a lot better. There were artifacts on
the wall from children, like a small toddler suit and a teddy bear that was
long forgotten in all the chaos and destruction of the hurricane. I enjoyed
being able to see what the winds were like at this time to better understand
the conditions, I thought the artifacts and continents of this museum really
helped me understand this natural disaster better.
Inner journey Journey

Today my favorite museum that we got to visit was the Presbytere
my favorite exhibit inside of that was the hurricane Katrina exhibit. I knew
that Katrina had happened, but I didn’t know that much about it, I couldn’t remember
hearing about it I was still a little young, but I feel like a huge disaster
like that I should remember pretty well. On this exhibit I enjoyed hearing the
videos of the stories from people who experienced it first hand, although it
was hard to listen to because it was such an awful situation I enjoyed hearing
about the experiences people had to go through and what life was like at that
time it was very fascinating to me. I enjoyed seeing the artifacts from Katrina
especially the writings from a man who went through this and stayed in the
city. I though what was most interesting was that while going through this
museum you almost felt like you were a part of this and experienced the hurt
and heartbreak of this awful disaster but at the end you are snapped back into
the reality that you did not actually suffer through this terrible experience
and your heart breaks all over again for these individuals. Being able to see
artifacts and belongings left from this disaster really made you realize how devastating
this time was. This museum really told the story well of the individuals who
had to endure this hardship and I really enjoyed learning more about this
disaster and being able to understand a little better how people felt during
this time. This exhibit made me see how much pride and love the people of New Orleans have for their city because right after this horrible disaster they came back to clean up their city still as proud as ever. I learned from this experience that even in terrible situation some good can be found such as bringing the city closer together and making policies that can help prevent having a situation this bad and making a city more prepared in another situation like this. The city spoke to me through this by saying we can survive any disaster or hardship thrown at us because this city is full of pride and a community that loves it which makes it be able to withstand anything.
