Outer Journey
While in New Orleans we’ve heard so many different types of
music, mostly jazz which was nice because I’ve never heard live jazz before but
there were also other various kinds of music like brass, string and just
vocalist performing. My favorite music experience that I got to witness while
in New Orleans would have to be when we were walking on Royal St. looking at
all the art galleries and all the little shops and all of a sudden, we came up
to this group of people playing all different musical instruments like a
trumpet, a trombone, a guitar, a washboard, and a tuba. They were all gathered
in a circle playing their instruments and singing along right in the middle of
the street. Both sidewalks were full of people and people were crowding around
them as they played I have never seen something like this before, it was truly
a sight to see. You could see everyone around the band listening and enjoying their
selves. The setting where this took place was not formal or planned at all it
just happened, and this is something I am not used to. Every musical gathering
that I’ve ever witnessed has been a planned and organized event so I am not
used to a group of people just getting together to play some music but I am
very glad I got to witness it because it was a very cool experience and very
soothing, it was my favorite musical encounter because it was so spontaneous
and the environment was just so cheerful and exciting.
Inner Journey
I think that this musical experience in particular was my
favorite because it was so fun and spontaneous, and it really spoke to me and
how I want to live my own life. I have gotten into the habit of doing the same
thing every day and just being so repetitive so seeing how spontaneous and care
free this group of musicians had really inspired me to transfer some of these
characteristics into my own life. When listening to their music I just felt so
happy and free like I didn’t have a care in the world, I could see how happy
these musicians were because they were doing their favorite thing, playing
music and making people happy. I’ve never seen a more freeing and inspiring
thing it gave me courage and made me feel unstoppable, I felt like if these
individuals were able to make their dreams come true and do what makes them
happy everyday so can I! This music spoke to me and made me realize that I am
capable of accomplishing whatever I put my mind to, it also spoke to me by
making me realize that its okay to slow down every once in a while, and enjoy
life, to stop just going through the motions, make every second count. This was
truly my favorite musical experience because by just stopping and listening for
a few minutes my eyes were opened and I learned so much from this group of
strangers and I am a better person because of it.
