Inside the Streets of New Orleans

Outer Journey
Today was filled with so many new experiences, so much excitement and knowledge it was enlightening. We had a three-hour tour with an amazing tour guide who was so lively and charismatic, a perfect example of an individual whose lived in New Orleans their whole life. Every word that came out of his mouth just pulled you in and captivated you, it was an experience that I hope everyone of you get to experience at some point in your life. The tour itself was very informational and I truly did enjoy it however, the most exciting and most cultural thing I got to experience occurred on our free time when we stopped to watch these street performers, there were three men who were so full of energy and pride for their city truly wanted to give you a show you’d remember and to represent the city they called home. These individuals had such big personalities that they just pulled you in to watch their show, you couldn’t help but stop whatever you were doing and just watch them. Everything this group did from their first words that pulled you in to the amazing stunts and break dancing that they did captivated you, its like I was in a trance and couldn’t take my eyes off these individuals, it was a type of performance I’ve never seen before. They would run, dance, flip, yell at you, and interact with the crowed the whole time there was never a dull moment nor a time where your eyes weren’t glued to these performers they had such big personalities and it was truly an experience one I hope you all get to witness if you are ever visiting New Orleans, especially since they’ve been doing shows for 30 plus years!

Inner Journey
Today was truly an amazing day full of earning and new experiences. I encountered different people who are a part of the New Orleans culture, some were captivating and enlightening, but others were frightening and made you remember that this is still a huge city full of people who don’t have the best intentions reminding you to always be aware of your surrounding and to keep your guard up. While watching this group of street performers today I was amazed by how positive and upbeat they were, you could tell that these performers had a story and could see it being told through their moves, their words, and their energy. You could see while watching this group how proud they were of what they have become, how far they have come, and where they are from. This group had such pride that it made me feel special for even getting to experience it. The whole time while watching this show I couldn’t take my eyes off of them i felt so connected to these performers and just in the one hour we were watching them I felt as though I knew their story, like I understood where they are coming from, and understood and felt their struggles. This whole experience was a learning experience and the biggest things that I took away from this was 1.) no matter how much you have struggled in the past there’s always hope and if you work hard and persevere you can drag yourself out of any hole you might have fallen into and 2.) that even complete strangers from all over the world can be brought together and connect through a common cause and I find that amazing. I was laughing and enjoying the experience with a complete stranger that I’ve never met before and will more than likely never meet again. While watching this performance I felt sympathy for these people who have obviously been through some struggles, I also felt proud because they dug themselves up from whatever hole/ struggle they have been in previously, and more than anything I felt included, I felt like I belonged here and my presence was appreciated and I think it’s so amazing that a simple show from street performers can make you feel all these emotions just in one sitting.
